Angela Dufresne, born in Hartford, CT in 1969, is a Brooklyn based American artist known for paintings that explore narrative in a variety of ways. She was raised in Olathe, KS, the town where Dick and Perry stopped in before they went on the kill the Clutters. Dufresne was the first of her family linage to get a college degree and has moved around prolifically. Dufresne received a BFA in 1991 from the Kansas City Art Institute and an MFA from the Tyler School of Art, Temple University, Philadelphia, in 1998. She has shown work internationally in exhibitions including Greater New York 2005 at PS1 Contemporary Art Center in New York, the 2005 ARCO Art Fair for Galeria Marta Cervera in Madrid, Miracle on Franklin Street at GV/AS in Brooklyn, The Triumph of Painting at the Saatchi Gallery in London, and a solo exhibition at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, CA. She is represented by Monya Rowe Gallery in New York, and CRG Gallery, also in New York. Dufresne currently teaches at the Rhode Island School of Design and has been a visiting artist and lecturer at many colleges and universities throughout New England. Dufresne has curated several shows and video screenings around the States, including Portraiture for the Silicon Enlightenment: (Fuckheads); Negative Joy, a video screening at 443 PAS, New York; and Available, a show about still life at Monya Rowe Gallery. She was a resident at the Fine Arts Workcenter in Provincetown, MA from 2002-2004 and at Yaddo in Saratoga Springs, NY in 2013, among receiving many other awards and honors.
