Chang-Jin Lee is a Korean-born visual artist and lives in New York City. Her multicultural background and experiences have provoked in her an interest in investigating the diverse cultural and social issues in our current era. In her artworks, she deals with identity, gender, globalism, nationalism, human trafficking, and religion.
She has exhibited internationally including at The Queens Museum of Art (New York), The World Financial Center Winter Garden (New York), Hauser & Wirth Gallery (New York), The Incheon Women Artists' Biennale (Korea), The Comfort Women Museum (Taiwan), The Kunstmuseum Bonn (Germany),The State Museum of Gulag (Russia), 1a Space Gallery (Hong Kong), Socrates Sculpture Park (New York), The Asian American Arts Centre (New York), The Chinese American Arts Council (New York), The Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (New York), Van Brunt Gallery (New York), Elizabeth Heskin Gallery (New York), Franconia Sculpture Park (Minnesota), The Bronx River Art Center (New York), The Boston Center for the Arts (Boston), Spaces Gallery (Ohio), The Three Rivers Arts Festival (Pittsburgh), and as Public Art at major sites (Times Square, Chelsea, Lincoln Center, etc) in New York City, in collaboration with the NYC Department of Transportation's Urban Art Program. She is a recipient of numerous awards including The New York State Council on the Arts Grant, The Korean Ministry of Gender Equality Award, The Asian Cultural Council Fellowship, The Asian Women Giving Circle Grant, The Lower Manhattan Cultural Council's MCAF, The Socrates Sculpture Park Fellowship, The Franconia Sculpture Park Jerome Fellowship, The Busan Sea Art Festival Award, The International Video Art Festival Prize, The New York Foundation for the Arts Fiscal Sponsorship Award, and The World Financial Center Sponsorship. She has been invited as a guest speaker at Columbia University, UC Berkeley, Stanford University, UCLA, The Korea Society, The City University of New York, The China Institute, The University of Southern California, Emory University, Wellesley College, The Korean American Associate/The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Atlanta, Georgia State University, Dalton State College, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Taipei Women's Rescue Foundation, and Suffolk Center on the Holocaust, Diversity & Human Understanding Inc.
Her artworks have been reviewed including The New York Times, The Huffington Post, Art Asia Pacific, Time Out New York, The Daily News, Public Art, New York Arts, The Los Angeles Times,Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, The World Journal, Metro, New York Press, The Tribeca Trib, The Korea Times, The Taipei Times, The Washington Journal, San Diego Union Tribune, The Associated Press, and Dazed & Confused Magazine. Her artwork received national and international broadcast media attention from The BBC, NPR's Art on Air (New York), New York 1 TV (New York), The BBC (London), Yue-Sai Kan's World (Shanghai), Tokyo FM (Tokyo), Morning Brew (Hong Kong), SBS TV News (Korea), and PTS TV Evening News (Taiwan). She has participated in artist residencies internationally including The World Financial Center Artist Residency (New York), Socrates Sculpture Park (New York), Franconia Sculpture Park (Minnesota), Youkobo Art Space (Japan), Bamboo Culture International (Taiwan), and Taipei Artist Village (Taiwan).
