Katy Bergman Cassell, born in 1975, is the Visual Art Department Chair and Metals/Enameling Department Head at the Fine Arts Center, a pre-professional arts high school for the gifted and talented in Greenville, SC. Before joining the faculty of the Fine Arts Center in 2007, Cassell taught metal smithing, jewelry, enameling, and drawing at Kent State University, where she received her MFA in 2004, the Cleveland Institute of Art, where she received her BFA in 1998, and the University of Akron.

She was awarded a prestigious National Artists Teachers Fellowship in 2012 and used the funds to travel to England to work with famous enamelists and explore the country. Highlights included visits to the Jurassic Coast, a behind-the-scenes tour of the Victoria and Albert Museum enameling archives, and the British Museum. She was a South Carolina State Parks Artist-in-Residence in 2012 and 2013.

She worked as an archaeological illustrator in India and as a museum educator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Cloisters, in New York, and at the Western Reserve Historical Society in Cleveland, OH, all of which were huge influences on her art. Cassell specializes in enameling and metals and keeps an active studio making artwork for exhibition, sale, and commission at the ArtBomb Studios in Greenville, SC, where she regularly exhibits during the State of ArtBomb annual shows.

In previous years she has exhibited her artwork in American Enamels at the Society of Arts and Crafts in Boston, MA, and inDecorative Resurgence at Rowan University Glassboro, NJ. She also has had seven solo shows, three of which were titled Connective Patterns, at Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno, NV, Seminole Community College in Sanford, FL, and at the Lipscomb Gallery of the Governor's School in Greenville. Her artwork has been published in 500 Enameled Objects by Lark Books in 2009, The Art of Enameling: Techniques, Projects, and Inspiration by Linda Darty in 2005. In past years her work has also been featured in Metalsmith magazine, At Home in the Upstate, The Greenville News, and Cleveland Scene magazine.
