Libby Black was born in Toledo, OH on June 19th, 1976. She earned her BFA in painting at the Cleveland Institute of Art, Cleveland, OH in 1999 and an MFA at the California College of Arts, Oakland, CA in 2001, where she was also an adjunct professor of Painting, Drawing and Fine Arts. She was an artist-in-residence at Montalvo Arts Center in Saratoga, California (2005) and was awarded the Cultural Equity Grant by the San Francisco Arts Commission (2003), as well as The Goldie Award by the San Francisco Bay Guardian (2002). She has shown at Marx & Zavattero, San Francisco; Charlie James Gallery, Los Angeles; Broad Street Gallery, University of Georgia, Athens, GA; The McKinney Avenue Contemporary, Dallas; Lyons Wier Gallery, New York City; and more. Her work has been reviewed in Artforum, Art in America, ARTnews, Zink magazine, Flash Art, and the New York Times. She is represented by Marx and Zavattero in San Francisco and Charlie James Gallery in Los Angeles.
