Manuel Acevedo

Born in Newark, New Jersey in 1964, Mr. Acevedo's work involves a mixture of photography, video, flip book animation, and camera obscura optics. Acevedo's recent solo and group exhibitions include 2011 Made and Unmade at Cuchifritos in NYC, Maraya Art Centre, UAE, Al-Ghaib, Aesthetics of Disappearance and Third Steaming, NYC, Planet of the Slums. In 2010, the critically acclaimed Keys of Light exhibition was presented at the Latino Cultural Center (LCC) in Dallas, Texas and the Bronx River Art Center (BRAC). He is a recipient of the 2009 Visual Art Network Residence for the Camera Communis: Knoxville, TN; 2007 Center for Book Arts, AIR Workspace Program, Visiting Artist at NYU and VAN Award for the SPACES' World Artists Program. His awards include the 2005 Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant; Longwood Arts Project: Digital Matrix Commission; 1999 & 2001 Mid-Atlantic Foundation's Artist as Catalysts Award & 1998-99 the Studio Museum in Harlem, AIR. He has also participated in various national and international exhibitions, including, PS1 Contemporary Art Center, Greater New York; Focal Point Gallery, Essex, UK, Persistence of Vision; Bard College, Annandale, NY, Re-Locations; The Studio Museum in Harlem, Flip, Funk & Fantasy; The Queens Museum of Art, Crossing the Line; Exit Art, "L" Factor; Westfaelischer Kunstverein, Muenster, Germany, Housing, two-person exhibition with Marjetica Potrc and a traveling exhibition titled None of the Above: Work by Contemporary Puerto Rican Artists, which opened May 2004 at Real Art Ways, Hartford, CT.
