Mark Guilbeau was born in 1960 in Lafayette, LA. His work focuses on found objects, which ask the viewer to question the role of art in society. He received his MFA from the University of Colorado, Boulder, CO in 1987 and his BFA from the University of Southwestern, Lafayette, LA in 1985. Guilbeau has exhibited at the Michael C. Rockefeller Arts Center, SUNY Fredonia, NY; New Genre Arts Festival, Oklahoma; False Security of Over Consumption; and Atlanta Arts Center, GA, among others. He has been awarded the Jerome Fellowship for the Franconia Sculpture Park, Shafer, MN in 2004, the North Carolina Arts Council Grant Award for an Artist Residency at Vermont Studio Center in 2004, a grant awarded by Englewood Parks and Recreaction Department to establish the Dry Creek Sculpture Garden, Englewood, CO in 2000. His artwork is part of Abdreas Bechtler Art Collection, Charlotte, NC; Dorothy J. Colemans Art Collection, New Orleans, LA; and Dave Adams Art Collection, Denver, CO. Guilbeau co-founded SPH Art-Functions in 1993 with the goal of deepening the public's understanding of the creative process.
