Sarah Paul is an interdisciplinary artist and educator based in Cleveland, Ohio, working across material, video, sound, and emerging media practices. Her work is informed by a background in mathematics and computer science and focuses on system-based approaches to art and design, spanning structural textiles, experimental video, installation, and performance.
Paul’s early practice centered on performance, emerging from a lifelong practice of writing and performing music. In 2013, a serious injury interrupted that trajectory and catalyzed a sustained shift toward sculptural and installation-based inquiry into bodily transformation.
Paul is a recipient of the Satellite Fund through SPACES Gallery, the Ohio Arts Council Individual Award for Excellence, and a Creative Workforce Fellowship. Past exhibitions include The Sculpture Center, Buffalo AKG Art Museum, Akron Soul Train, and Florida Atlantic University Schmidt Gallery. She is currently Professor of Sculpture and Expanded Media at the Cleveland Institute of Art.
