Welcome Art Writer, Katherine Cooper

Posted in Category Art Writer in Residence

Katherine Cooper will conduct a series of interviews with artists in Cleveland to investigate the politics and aesthetics of intimacy in artistic practice. Conversing with artists in Cleveland to arrive at a working definition of "intimacy," Cooper will allow her research to be informed by the artwork itself as well as theoretical texts. Her professional experience as a sex and relationship advice columnist at Playboy Magazine and her year and a half long journey around the globe writing about that experience and asking individuals questions about intimacy in their own lives will also bolster the research-based writing.

These interviews with artists as well as her attendance to galleries, artist studios, and museums (such as the Museum of Contemporary Art, The Cleveland Museum of Art and the Toledo Museum of Art) will inform her critical, associative and personal writing about aesthetics, intimacy and the northeast Ohio region which she'll publish daily on her website.

ABOUT THE ART WRITER PROGRAM
SPACES supports international, U.S. and local cultural producers in the development of new ideas, while facilitating opportunities to collaborate with audiences in Northeast Ohio through various artist in residence initiatives. Since 2002, SPACES has hosted 68 artists from around the world. In 2015, SPACES expanded to include a dedicated residency for art writers, to increase critical dialogue focused on Cleveland's vibrant art scene. This opportunity is supported by the National Endowment for the Arts.
