Thanks to Karl + Welcome Alice & Cierra!!!

Thanks to Karl + Welcome Alice & Cierra!!!
Our awesome Project Coordinator, Karl Anderson, will be leaving SPACES this month to focus on his own artwork. Karl has expended an incredible amount of energy and effort, over 3+ years, to help artists like Michael Rakowitz, Julia Christensen, and José Carlos Teixeira (really, just to name a few) create projects that get our visitors to think about the world in different ways. He's been through a relocation with us, significant changes to our public programs, a website redesign, and strategic plan—and has provided insight and a calming presence during the most hectic of times.

While we'll definitely miss Karl we're not stressing his departure becuase we've mined our volunteer base for an incredible replacement. Please welcome Alice Waraxa as the newest SPACES staffer! Alice recently relocated to Cleveland from Milwaukee and works from a personal place between the conscious and subconscious mind. Her concept driven work is entangled with deep-rooted ideas of conservation, social awareness, personal identity, and cultural exchange. She has started artist residencies and held community events and skill sharing workshops, and has worked in healthcare, publishing, and art administration.

But we also found ourselves an awesome replacement for the role that Jasmine Golphin exited to become our Creative Outreach Coordinator! Cierra Rembert started at SPACES as an intern, then quickly transitioned into the role of fellow, and is now our Artist Outreach Coordintor. In this role, she will work with artists who have received Urgent Art Fund and Satellite Fund grants, as well as connect local artists to the resources SPACES can provide them. Her artwork focuses on paintings, sculptures, and mixed media art embodying themes of past and present worldly issues. Cierra is a recent graduate of Cleveland State University and has most recently been involved in charitable contributions and exhibitions: America SCORES, Art Inspired Auction, and juried exhibitions, The Galleries at CSU, 47th annual Student Show, and Untitled Art Show, featuring African-American artists. She looks forward to promoting artists to develop their work and impact the communities they reach. Find out more about Cierra here.
