I created an installation version of Century of Progress / Sleep at SPACES this summer, expanding the work as well as performing new material with Julie Licata, Matt Sargent, and Chris Auerbach-Brown; this video interview provides insight into that process.
The next phase of Century of Progress / Sleep will be developed as a VR experience at the University of Michigan through a year-long visiting artist engagement organized by the Stamps School of Art and Design. This process involves partners from across several areas of the university, including the Sleep and Circadian Research Laboratory at Michigan Medicine. Act II will debut in the summer of 2020, with details forthcoming this academic year.
The Limited Edition Vinyl LP of Century of Progress / Sleep is available via Bandcamp! This milestone was made possible via the tremendous support of Colgate University, where I was the 2018/19 Christian A. Johnson Endeavor Foundation Artist-in-Residence. Through that year-long residency, the opera transformed into an ensemble arrangement culminating in a series of live performances in the campus planetarium dome. The residency program at Colgate also supported producing and publishing a studio recording, pressed at Gotta Groove Records.
