Round 2: The Satellite Fund Emergency Grant Relief

APPLICATION LINK HERE

SPACES has opened a second round of grants to artists through The Satellite Fund Emergency Relief program.

The Satellite Fund Emergency Relief program is open to artists, curators, and cultural producers experiencing significant financial stress. If awarded, funds may be used toward living expenses, medical bills, or similar purposes. Grants of up to $1,000 will be distributed to at least 50 local artists. Though previously ineligible, artists enrolled in degree granting programs may apply for emergency funds in this round. Applications for Emergency Relief Grants will be accepted from May 20th - May 31st and selected artists will be notified in June.

Only artists who have been significantly impacted by the current pandemic and economic crisis should apply. Awards are made based on a declaration of need and demonstrated visual arts practice. It is anticipated that the number of qualified applicants will likely exceed the amount of available awards. In that case, final determinations will be made through a lottery process.

Due to the unprecedented nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, we define “significantly impacted” as the lack of or imminent endangerment of essentials, including: housing, medicine, care taking, and food. We are aware that each artist’s needs differ so we ask that you thoroughly and accurately assess and share your situation.

ELIGIBILITY:

This fund is open to visual artists and multi-disciplinary artists at all stages of their careers. If all of the following statements are true, you are eligible to apply:

__ You are a resident of Cuyahoga County, Ohio

__ You are 18 years of age or older

__You are a visual artist and can provide samples of your work

__ You have not received a grant from The Satellite Fund Emergency Relief Program

__ You require emergency funding for living expenses, medical bills, food, or similar purposes due to the current pandemic and economic crisis

__ You are able to provide a Cuyahoga County mailing address and complete a W-9 form for payment processing

APPLICATION:

Applications must be submitted online, through Submittable. If you have any trouble submitting, please reach out to Artist Outreach Coordinator, Cierra (cierra@spacescle.org) well in advance of the deadline. You will need to prepare and include the following in order to be considered:

1) Samples of Visual Arts Practice

Artists must upload one of the following to demonstrate their ongoing visual arts practice. Please do not include all three options, rather choose the best that best demonstrates your work:

  • An artist biography combined with three (3) examples of original work
  • An artist website portfolio
  • A short artist resume or CV

2) Declaration of Need

You will be asked to check boxes indicating your financial needs (Food, Housing, Medical, or Other). You will be asked to share your current employment status, including if you lost full-time, part-time, or contract-based work due to COVID-19 and share other details about your current financial position. Additionally, you may choose to share if there are any underlying conditions which place you in elevated risk at this time.

3) Optional: Share how you engage your community with your work. Not all visual arts practices are evident through an image. If you feel your art practice is better shared in a description, you may include a statement of up to 200 words describing how you interact with your community through your visual arts practice.

The Review Process:

Applications will be reviewed by staff to ensure completion. Our panel of jurors will review each application and score based on demonstrated visual arts practice and financial need. It is anticipated that the number of qualified applicants will likely exceed the amount of available awards. In that case, final determinations will be made through a lottery process. Artists selected for the award will be contacted in June and asked to complete the appropriate paperwork prior to award disbursement.
