Artbox in Asiatown

Cleveland Public Library and SPACES invite Ohio artists, designers and creators to submit proposals to a new public project, Artbox in Asiatown. We are seeking to commission an artist and their work on an Artbox in Asiatown, Cleveland. Artists will receive a commission of $5,000 (exclusive of installation costs) and a transportation reimbursement for up to $500.

The goal of the Artbox is to provide the community access to Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) books, create a space for artists of color to promote their arts, and bring light to the rich history of the APIDA community in Cleveland. The Artbox is intended to be a place of belonging, inspiration, education, and continue serving as a destination to draw visitors to Asiatown.

Artwork should embody the following:

• Diversity of the APIDA community; honor and celebrate the APIDA history in Cleveland

• Recognizable identity for Asiatown and Cleveland Public Library

• Spirit of belonging; welcoming place for everyone to celebrate and connect

• Inclusive and reflective of the local community

• Inspiring, transformational, imaginative, unifying

ELIGIBILITY

The artwork must be original and appropriate for outdoor installation; able to withstand weather, vandalism, graffiti, etc. and be adequately/safely displayed and secured.

• Must be at least 18 years of age

• Must be able to complete the art aligned with the projects timeline requirements

• Must be based in Ohio

Proposals will be accepted beginning today March 29 at 12PM until the end of day April 29, 2022.
