Telling Our Stories: A Community Archiving Conversation with John Skrtic

Saturday, August 2, 12-2PM

Join us for a gathering of storytelling, memory, and community heritage as John Skrtic, Chief of Special Projects and Collections at the Cleveland Public Library, and George Harb, Founder of Zaman Project, lead a powerful conversation on the importance of documenting local history through the voices of those who lived it.

Cleveland is a city of neighborhoods, of families, of change—and each resident carries a unique piece of its story. This event invites attendees to explore what it means to build a community archive: one that reflects real lives, overlooked narratives, and everyday histories.

In this interactive session, John Skrtic will share lessons learned from working with local residents to preserve their personal and neighborhood histories and practical guidance on how you can help document your own community's story.

This event will include a brief presentation by George Harb discussing how he has used personal archives to build and curate a community archive. Whether you're a longtime Clevelander or a new resident living in the diaspora, this event is your chance to help shape how cities and communities remember themselves.
