The Fixers Trailer from Kate Sopko on Vimeo.

Join us for a city-wide dialogue on what functional political process could look like, and how public policy is impacting a greater Cleveland.

While hosting the 2016 Republican National Convention this July, Cleveland expects 50,000+ visitors and 10 billion media hits. Convention-goers will spend the majority of their time in a small section of Cleveland's compact downtown.

The Fixers is a collaborative artwork asking what the rest of Cleveland--recently found to be the most economically distressed large city in America--could tell RNC delegates about how public policy impacts the lives of urban Americans.

In journalism, a fixer is a well-networked local who helps a foreign journalist find quick entry into a story, by introducing them to people who are in the know. The Fixers asks Clevelanders, who act as cultural fixers, to tell us their stories on what it's like to ride public transit, on young people addressing violence in their neighborhoods, on efforts to increase healthy food access in Cleveland's food deserts, and much more.

Cleveland artist Kate Sopko, with filmmakers Robert Banks, Angela Beallor, Chelsie Corso, Tom Laffay, Elizabeth Press and Paul Sobota, are shooting a series of short films that follow Clevelanders invested in urban vitality and social equity on tours they would give RNC delegates,if given the chance. This project will be on display at SPACES from May 20 - July 21, along with public dialogues hosted at venues around Cleveland. The Fixers will also be on display at Smack-Mellon from June 18 - July 31, 2016.

Stay tuned to find out who the Fixers are, as we continue shooting the films this spring.
