SPACES will present four episodes of Soda_Jerk's Astro Black, an ongoing video series which uses sampled material to consider the origins and politics of Sun Ra's Afrofuturist mythology. Informed by cultural theories of Afrofuturism, this speculative history seeks to draw out the nexus of science fiction and social politics in Black Atlantic sonic culture. Astro Black will be one of three shows to inaugurate the gallery's new premises and marks the first exhibition in Cleveland by Australian collective Soda_Jerk.

ABOUTFormed in Sydney in 2002, Soda_Jerk is a 2-person art collective that approaches sampling as an alternate form of history-making.
