Universal Approximator

Datasets are the messy of-the-world side of the highly abstracted systems that increasingly drive our society. Thousands or millions of examples are fed into systems used for everything from identifying objects in photographs to suggesting to a judge if someone should be paroled.

During his residency at SPACES, Jeff Thompson will continue his work exploring ways that datasets create representations of ourselves and what happens when we reduce things – objects, people, ideas – to systems.

Jeff Thompson is an artist, programmer, and educator based in the NYC area.
