Liberation Labs

SPACES artist-in-residence, Holly Bass, originally planned to engage Cleveland residents whose lives have been affected by the court system in Liberation Lab activities including story collection, social dance experiences, and writing workshops. Due to the impact of the Covid-19, the project’s focus shifted towards an exploration of personal safety and freedom in the midst of a global crisis. Using “kitchen magic,” invented rituals, poetic spells, and instructionals, the artist invites viewers to write down wishes in exchange for small talismans and mementos.
