Cooking Sections (London, UK)
Part of Partnered Projects
Lake Erie faces a growing ecological crisis: hypoxia—a lack of oxygen caused by agrochemical-laden runoff from fertilisers suffocating its aquatic species and threatening the health of the entire local ecosystem. To Those Who Nourish is a multi-year partnership between SPACES and Cooking Sections which addresses the long-term health of Lake Erie.
Beginning with a 2022 installation, a public fountain situated in Lake Erie symbolizes the impact of those working to repair the health of the regional ecosystem. Named after the partnership, this installation recognizes the commitments made by small-scale farms in exploring alternative, lake-friendly farming practices.
The impacts of this project have taken place on agricultural land across Northeast Ohio. Each participating farm has taken on an in-depth project to explore the infrastructure, educational outreach, and experimentation taking place on their farms; through quarterly workshops and access to the necessary resources to grow their practices, the farmers are given the space to collaborate as they face this regional issue together.
With a celebration of the farms’ commitment throughout this project in August 2025, To Those Who Nourish envisions how arts organizations like SPACES might work with local agricultural systems to create change.
To Those Who Nourish is organized by SPACES in collaboration with Cooking Sections, co-curated by Special Projects Curator Imani Badillo, and former Executive Director Tizziana Baldenebro. To Those Who Nourish is supported by the Teiger Foundation, with early support given by FRONT International: The Cleveland Triennial for Contemporary Art.
