SPACES Gallery is Open Weds-Sat, 12–5PM. Offices Open Mon–Fri, 9–5PM
Using sonic therapy and marching band traditions to explore themes of healing, injury, and labor through the lens of football culture, SPACES artist-in-residence Steve Parker will transform the Gund Gallery into an immersive sound sculpture. Titled Sonic Meditation for Solo Performer, this site-specific installation includes an array of salvaged marching band instruments suspended from the ceiling, creating an environment for visitors to participate in an interactive meditation using an EEG brain monitor that translates their brainwaves into live musical compositions. Throughout the course of the exhibition, a selection of regional artists and performers will respond to prompts described by Parker to activate the installation. The compositions produced from these performances will then be incorporated into Sonic Meditation for Solo Performer, allowing the work to evolve over time. In the adjoining Oracle Gallery, Parker will showcase a research presentation of his dynamic artistic practice through archival materials, text and moving image.
