CLEVELAND, Ohio -- I love the messages Dr. Seuss relays to kids through his classic, "The Sneetches," of civility, acceptance, self-love. This week, the Oberlin Orchestra premieres a piece based on "The Sneetches."
1. Party for the planet. Sunday is the 42nd anniversary of Earth Day, so take everybody to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo for the EarthFest Party for the Planet from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. (Before you go, check out the slide show on the link above so you can see the baby animals and what else is new with other animals.) It's free with admission. The Akron Zoo's party is 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Check here for details.
2. Send a message of acceptance. The Oberlin Conservatory presents the world premiere of "The Sneetches," by Lorenzo Palomo, at 8 p.m. today in Finney Chapel, 90 N. Professor St. "The Sneetches" is a symphonic poem commissioned by Oberlin parent, Dr. Sidney Sobel, and is based on the Dr. Seuss book of the same name. It will be performed by the Oberlin Orchestra, with conductor Raphael Jim
