Press Release (PDF): http://www.spacesgallery.org/files/pr/2012/120724-spaces-mccaw-budsberg-pr.pdf

Exhibition: August 24 - October 19, 2012
Opening Reception: Friday, August 24, 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.

Cleveland, OH, July 24, 2012-The Milwaukee-based artist duo of Shana McCaw and Brent Budsberg take on the physical gallery of SPACES like no other artists before. Using the structure of SPACES itself, McCaw and Budsberg will examine the archetype of an art gallery as a collection of architectural techniques that work to negate its own space.

SPACES is not named after the lumber and masonry that make up its structure, but for the void it contains. With white walls and minimal furnishings, the art gallery seeks to disappear in order to isolate and amplify the work it exhibits, yet its physical structure is always present. In their SPACES project "An Inventory of Absence" Shana McCaw and Brent Budsberg examine the archetype of the art gallery, referencing techniques of architectural representation to deconstruct and re-contextualize the visitor's experience of space, revealing the void as a compelling yet unattainable ideal.

The Opening Reception on Friday, August 24th from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. is free and open to the public as is general gallery admission.
