SPACES WELCOMES THEA SPITTLE AS NEW CURATORIAL COORDINATOR

(Cleveland, OH) — SPACES is thrilled to announce the hiring of Thea Spittle (she/her) as its new Curatorial Coordinator. Based in Akron, Ohio, Thea brings a thoughtful, collaborative approach to curating, grounded in community engagement and artist-driven programming throughout Northeast Ohio.

An independent curator and writer, Thea has worked closely with artists to develop exhibitions, publications, and public programs that expand access to contemporary art in dynamic and meaningful ways. She holds a Master of Arts in Curatorial Studies from the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College and a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and Spanish from Hamilton College.

Thea's first curatorial endeavor, the sunroom, transformed a Cleveland Heights home into a vibrant venue for site-specific installations that wove art into domestic and outdoor spaces. In 2022, she co-curated the CAN Triennial, organizing exhibitions at Zygote Press, Morgan Paper Conservancy, and artNEO. She also co-directed Gallery 2602, a roaming exhibition and public programming platform created with Deidre McPherson, which brought contemporary art into everyday community spaces.

Currently, Thea curates exhibitions for the Museum of Creative Human Art, which is in residency at the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Her practice continues to emphasize access, collaboration, and deep relationships with artists and audiences alike.

SPACES is excited to welcome Thea’s thoughtful vision and curatorial approach to the team on May 1 and looks forward to the dynamic exhibitions and public programs she will help shape.
