SPACES Awards $60K to Five Cuyahoga County Artists

(Cleveland, OH) — Aug 18, 2026 — SPACES is proud to announce the awardees of the 2026 Satellite Fund: Orlando Caraballo Ortiz, Anna Chapman/Re.tangle, Shelli Reeves, Lindsay Stefans, and Darius Steward. With the eighth cycle of this fund, each artist’s project was selected by a panel of five jurors to receive a grant of $12,000. The Satellite Fund, administered by SPACES since 2019 and supported by The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts Regional Regranting, is an opportunity for Cuyahoga County based artists, curators, and cultural producers to create a public visual art project engaging in experimental practices with strong conceptual foundations. In addition to financial support, SPACES provides access to on-site artist workshops outfitted with tools and equipment to facilitate the production process. The Satellite Fund 2026 Recipients: Orlando Caraballo Ortiz’s “Jugando la Mano / La Chamba Linda” is an art activation across two sites inspired by Caraballo's grandfather’s Delicatessen that interrogates how cultural spaces and activities they contain connect us to our personal, cultural, and spiritual cosmologies; “Re.tangle No.4 | Loom Room” is a collaborative, ecofeminist art project curated by Anna Chapman that fosters experimental art spaces around a communal loom, featuring performance interventions, sculptural works, and curated social dialogue; “Granny’s Porch” is an immersive installation inspired by Shelli Reeves’ grandmother’s home that explores where belonging has historically lived and where it lives today through the stories, memories, and places that allow people to feel seen, cared for, and free to be themselves; Lindsay Stefans presents “Common Light,” a multi-day, site-specific light installation that transforms a yet-to-be-revealed Cleveland landmark into an immersive experience where light, sound, architecture, and community converge; and “Wet on Wet” by Darius Steward is a temporary public art installation of large watercolor portraits of black people in Cleveland, painted on Yupo paper, that an automated sprinkler system periodically strips and partly resets, using the paintings' physical impermanence as a metaphor for progress, and its absence, in Cleveland's black neighborhoods.

Ford, an artist based between Cleveland, OH and Pittsburgh, PA; Daniel Noel, Manager of Development and Board Relations at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, OH; Jordan Wong (WONGFACE), a Chinese American artist creating visual work inspired by anime, manga, and video game culture, mixed media fiber artist, storyteller and author living in Cleveland, OH;

About Regional Regranting Program: The Satellite Fund is funded through the generous support of The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts Regional Regranting Program. The Regional Regranting Program was established in 2007 to recognize and support the movement of independently organized, public-facing, artist-centered activity that animates local and regional art scenes but that lies beyond the reach of traditional funding sources.
