Kate Atherton is a comics artist and illustrator living and working in Cleveland, Ohio. She attended Rhode Island School of Design, BFA in Illustration, class of 2011 and since has worked as a set painter (for the Cleveland Playhouse and Talespinner Children's theatre), illustrator (Kringle's Inventionasium, Heights Arts, Edible Cleveland), comics/art workshop teacher (Lake Erie Ink, RISE at Near West Theatre), Props designer (Near West Theatre), performer, actor and stage manager.

She creates lavish, detailed pen and ink paintings and drawings as well as pen and ink and pencil comics based on theater and literature and autobiographical comics based on her life. Kate has shown her work most recently at the Beck Center for the arts and Gordon Square Art Space where she had a show in February and March of her body of work based on the past five years of shows at Near West Theatre. She works part time at Cleveland Heights-University Heights Public library as an adult services associate and curator of their zine collection. She has also created a body of comics work based on her experiences at the library and creates illustrated window and display case displays to promote programming at the library regularly as part of her job.

This year Kate was published as part of Scene magazine (and Cleveland.com)'s comics issue and she taught at Lake Erie Ink's Comic-con as a guest artist.
