Kate Sopko

website

Kate Sopko is a collage, installation and public artist based in Cleveland.

She has been creating cut-paper collage work for 20+ years. By way of color, texture and the remarkable ways patterns endlessly repeat themselves in nature, Kate works to find unexpected visual relationships between bits of paper. Collage for her is an intuitive, generative process, often resulting in visual complexity far greater than a simple sum of component parts.

Her collage works have been exhibited with venues including Extraordinaire Photos Studio, the Cleveland Print Room, Wall Eye Gallery, the Language Foundry and Toast CLE.

Kate’s public artworks have included the Cleveland-wide project 'The Fixers' held during the 2016 Republican National Convention (SPACES; Smack Mellon), 'Fallout' (MOCA, 2017), 'Survival Postures' (SPACES, 2011) and a series of site-specific fort installations built in Northeast Ohio and Texas (Habitable Spaces; Zygote Press; University of Akron Field Station; Associated Gallery, 2012-2024).
