Pita Brooks is a multi-media artist working in a range of materials, including her comfort zone and expertise in the material explorations of traditional mediums like painting, photography, and encaustic to more risk-taking ventures with new media genres such as audio/video, installation, and performative works. Her content often flirts with surrealism, but far from the trappings of appearance and more in the vast terrain of the oddities and ironies of human psychology, cultural (un)realities, and social interactions. At times very narrative and in other moments more theoretical, Brooks tackles her subject matter and her content with a sensitive balance between the modesty of imagination and the confidence of commentary.
